NCCA Student Resources
The student resources for Strands 1 and 2, developed by the NCCA, are intended to supplement the work that students do in class and help them to gain an understanding of the mathematical concepts involved. They can be used in paired or small group work to stimulate discussions between students and provide opportunities for students to communicate their thinking and reasoning. They could also be assigned as homework, following initial engagement with the topic in class. In completing the activities, students are required to process and interpret information, and to explain and justify conclusions, etc.
The topics included in these resources are closely aligned to the syllabus at Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate, but note that Vectors (resource section Geometry 5) is no longer included on the syllabus at Leaving Certificate.
In some of the activities, students can develop their own logical thinking and reasoning skills by following the structured support provided. These activities are meant to be carried out in a practical manner and working in pairs is often the best approach.
