PowerPoint Shows and GeoGebra files from Workshop 7

The Project Maths Development Team is pleased to announce that the PowerPoint shows
and GeoGebra files used in Workshop 7: Functions are now available online under the
Workshop 7 tab on www.projectmaths.ie . Alternatively, click below for direct access.

Workshop 8: Developing Student Understanding - Making Connections

Please note invitations have now been issued to all school principals for Workshop 8:

If you have not received this correspondence from the Project Maths office please contact

another copy can be re-issued.

Workshop 8: Developing Student Understanding- Making Connections will focus on and will include:

  • Problem Solving as a “Means” not as an “End”
  • An intuitive introduction to the concepts of Limits and Derivatives
  • Exploring the slope of the tangent and rates of change in graphs of algebraic functions
  • Sketching curves and their derivatives
  • Assessing Student Understanding: A Graph Matching Activity
  • GeoGebra Session to assist further exploration of differentiation

 

New Teaching & Learning Plans Available

The Project Maths Development Team are pleased to announce that there are three new Teaching & Learning Plans now available online.

GeoGebra Tutorials

www.projectmaths.ie has new tab, called GeoGebra/ICT. There are numerous GeoGebra and ICT resources to be found here, including GeoGebra tutorials, which will be updated regularly.

Interactive Teaching & Learning Plans

Many of the Teaching & Learning Plans created by the Project Maths Development Team
have now become interactive, and contain an accompanying PowerPoint presentation
to assist their delivery in the classroom. See the Teachers tab on www.projectmaths.ie for

New Problem Solving Questions available online

There are new problem solving questions now available online. These will be updated as the year progresses. Currently
there are three sets of Problem Solving questions available for Junior Cycle Students and Senior Cycle Students.
Many students are unfamiliar with the problem solving process, perhaps you might consider using a
selection of the problems with various student levels.

Visit www.projectmaths.ie , select "Problem Solving Questions" tab and the relevant year group for more information.


Modular Course 4: Problem Solving & Financial Maths

The Project Maths Development Team, is pleased to offer this modular course on Problem Solving & Financial Maths.
The course will focus on new elements of the syllabus, methodology and provide student centered activities.
The course will cover topics from Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate syllabus.
All attendance will be certified.

Modules (4 x 2.5 hours each)

1. Introduction to Problem Solving

2. Integrating Problem Solving throughout the syllabus

3.Financial Maths

4. Further exploration of Financial Maths & Geometric Sequences & Series.

Syllabus from the NCCA for examination in 2014/2015


Revised syllabuses for the 2014 Leaving Certificate Exam and
the 2015 Junior Certificate Exam have been sent to schools by
the Department of Education and Skills.

Syllabuses for the different phases of Project Maths can be accessed below.

Maths Competitions 2013

There are numerous maths competitions currently available for students to enter with
some fantastic prizes up for grabs.

Congratulations to the previous winners of the Monthly Maths Challenge, the question for
