John Hooper Medal for Statistics

The Central Statistics Office has announced a new award for second-level students -- the John Hooper Medal for Statistics. This competition requires students to create a poster that uses statistics to describe or make sense of daily life. Students can win money for their school and represent Ireland in the International Statistical Literacy Project competition. Engineers Week 14th-20th February 2011 - Focus on the Future!

Engineers Week is a week long programme of nationwide events with the aim of celebrating the world of engineering in Ireland.
Events for primary, post-primary students and families will take place across the country during the week.
Engineers Week 2010 was a great success with 17,000 participants and over 140 organisations taking part. Each student participants in this year’s event will be in with the chance of winning a fantastic trip to visit the NEMO Science Center in Amsterdam!

Local Facilitators Wanted

Would you be interested in becoming a Local Facilitator with the Project Maths Development Team?
We are delighted with the positive response from the evaluations of Workshops to date. We are also delighted with the number of teachers of mathematics who are willing to share their best practice, professionalism and creative ideas with all of us.
The evaluations have also indicated that teachers would like support in other areas, including Applications of Strand 2 at Junior & Senior Cycle and ICT for Strands 3 and 4. Do you feel that you have a particular skill or interest in these areas or in another area of mathematics which you would be willing to share to benefit other teachers of mathematics? Would you be interested in facilitating local workshops in partnership with us? If so, we would love to hear from you.

Second Phase of ICT grants announced.

Tánaiste announces 25m in grants for high-tech classrooms in Post Primary schools and PLC sector. Almost 700 post primary schools across the country are to receive a further 23 million in grants for high-tech equipment over the coming days as part of the Governments strategy to make technology an integral part of the learning process. These student activities are designed to check students understanding of particular theorems on the Project Maths syllabus. Students will complete activities which require them to demonstrate an understanding of the theorem(s) involved by rewriting them in their own words.
The files are located under the "Supplementary Material" tab in the teachers section of Strand 2 on the website. Click the relevant year group to proceed to relevant page.
