Tánaiste announces €20.75m in grants for high-tech classrooms in Post Primary schools
ICT infrastructure Post Primary Grant (2010):
ICT grant related letters are being issued to schools by the Department, and these provide details of ICT grants for Post Primary schools. Please refer to the letter which provides further grant details for your school.

New T&L Plans now available.
(19 October 2010)The Project Maths Development Team is pleased to announce that new T&L Plans are now available online.
The T&L dealing with the "Introduction to Complex Numbers", can be accessed by looking at Strand 3, Senior Cycle, T&L Plans, or alternatively by clicking here.
The T&L Plan dealing with "Fractions", can be accessed by looking at Strand 3, Junior Cycle, T&L Plans, or alternatively, by clicking here.
There is also a diagnostic test which may be used in conjunction with the T&L on Fractions. To download the diagnostic test, click here.

The 20th of October is World Statistics Day.

To honour world statistics day a number of events are taking place;
- - The Central Statistics Office (CSO) will host a press conference in Dublin at 9:30am
- - Census at school will be launched in all Primary and Post Primary schools
- - A new annual award, "The John Hooper Medal for Statistics" will be launched
- - The CSO will host a special symposium on Input-Output analysis.

Local Facilitators Wanted

Would you be interested in becoming a Local Facilitator with the Project Maths Development Team?
We are delighted with the positive response from the evaluations of Workshops to date. We are also delighted with the number of teachers of mathematics who are willing to share their best practice, professionalism and creative ideas with all of us.
The evaluations have also indicated that teachers would like support in other areas, including Applications of Strand 2 at Junior & Senior Cycle and ICT for Strands 3 and 4. Do you feel that you have a particular skill or interest in these areas or in another area of mathematics which you would be willing to share to benefit other teachers of mathematics? Would you be interested in facilitating local workshops in partnership with us? If so, we would love to hear from you.

Maths Week 9th - 16th October

Workshop 3 Update
11th October 2010
September 27th 2010 saw the commencement of the third workshop of the national programme of professional development for Project Maths.
More than 6,000 teachers have each been invited to attend one of the 290 workshops that are being provided in this round.
Teachers working in Gaeltacht or Irish language medium schools have been invited to a workshop in Irish.
Workshop 3 focuses on Strand 3: Number & Problem Solving. This workshop
- introduces problem solving
- engages participants in problem solving
- supports teachers in teaching & learning methodologies for problem solving
- models Teaching & Learning Plans for Strand 3 of Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate to support the emphasis on bringing about a changed approach to student learning, use of contexts and applications, and the development of problem solving skills
- deals with assessment (including current Sample Paper & Marking Scheme)
Other elements of the programme of professional development include the ongoing provision of evening courses for content related to Strand 1 and ICT for Strands 1 and 2.The Project Maths Development Team will again be seeking Local Facilitators whom they will train to assist in the provision of this comprehensive programme of support.
